Human innately quest for the West as the sun sets to the West. Due to this nature, perhaps, Henry David Thoreau, American poet, philosopher and historian said, “And the way the nation is moving, and I may say that mankind progress from east to west….We go westward as into the future, with a spirit of enterprise and adventure.” With no exception to this original nature of human expedition, we undertook a west-bound plan across “westering” American soul. What sets us apart is our objective of rediscovering the beauty of American geography intertwined with Muslim Demography.
This is a road trip through eighteen states across the United States from east to west and back to east, visiting over 22 different mosques. We dared to undertake this adventure to uncover the bewildering culture of Muslim communities in America to explore and document how Muslims are blended into the western society, within the larger context of complicated American identity.
The places we discovered during our 9,000-mile journey were unexpected, sometimes mysterious, and often full of simply the wonder of the ordinary. Many of us have no idea about it. In order to share our finding, we are trying to organize, analyze and archive the collected information.
